Ohio Graduation Test Information

If you have a son or daughter who will begin the 10th grade after July 1, 2004, then you will need to know all you can about the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).

  • The OGT is a key part of Ohio 's education reform to establish an aligned system of standards, tests and accountability for Ohio schools.
  • In order to receive a diploma, the class of 2007 must meet both curriculum and graduation test requirements.
  • Five tests in reading, writing, math, science and social studies will make up the new graduation test which will replace the Ohio Ninth-Grade Proficiency Test.
  • Beginning in March 2005, students will test for the first time in the spring of their sophomore year.
  • Students who don't pass one or more parts of the OGT will have multiple opportunities their junior and senior year.
  • The OGT will have approximately 35 multiple-choice questions and up to eight written response items.

Apollo is preparing now to ensure our students will pass the OGT while at the same time meeting our mission statement: Apollo Career Center students will meet entry level requirements for the workforce and/or college.

Preparation for the OGT will be important for your student's success. That is why we are putting the systems in place to ensure that students who attend Apollo will meet their graduation requirements including passage of all five parts of the OGT.

If you would like more information about the OGT, you can visit the Ohio Department of Education Web site www.ode.state.oh.us/proficiency/OGT/default.asp.
