The Fabrication Concepts and Plate Welding program is designed to provide portable welding credentials for code welders. Welders can test to a number of code-specific supplements that pattern themselves after the qualification requirements of those specific codes. Through classroom and hands-on training, students will gain knowledge and practice in the following modules*:
- Welding Fundamentals and Metrology
- Math for Welders
- Blueprint Reading / Metallurgy
- Oxy-Fuel Welding / Cutting
- GMAW (MIG Welding I – V)
- SMAW (ARC Welding I – IV)
- GTAW (TIG Welding I – III)
- Fabrication I – III
- Professional Development: Resume writing, job search, interview skills, and employability training
These skills have been identified as being in demand by manufacturers throughout Ohio. Graduates will be eligible to seek AWS Certification in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW. Employment referrals to companies throughout the region will be provided.
*Modules may be taken separately as a part-time class. Click here for availability.
American Welding Society
Apollo Career Center is an accredited test facility for the American Welding Society and offers welding certification testing for our students and the community. It is one of only four in the state of Ohio. This accreditation means Apollo can test upon program completion and grant American Welding Society (AWS) certification. The nationally recognized certification proves that the student has the fundamental welding knowledge that business and industry not only needs but requires. Apollo Career Center works directly with employers to match students with career opportunities.
Articulation Agreements
Apollo has articulation agreements that link the classes taken at Apollo with courses offered at State-supported two-year colleges. The intent of the articulation plan is to recognize student achievement in career programs by providing advanced placement at the college level. The advanced credit earned reduces the number of credit hours needed for a degree. Students will not need to retake classes already completed.
Financial Aid available
According to the Department of Labor, www.lmi.state.oh.us, “Employment is projected to increase by 0.4% between 2014-2024. Continued enhancements in productivity and increased automation will reduce the need for welders, although the outlook for welders in manufacturing is stronger than that for other occupations in this industry because of the importance and versatility of welding as a manufacturing process.”
Programmatic credentialing requirements and qualifications for employment vary per employer and/or facility.
